Esperanza Spalding

To my ears, this Grammy Award winning lioness of the electric and upright is heir (and hair) apparent to Stanley Clarke, Jaco Pastorius, Ron Carter, Paul Chambers, Scott LaFaro, Dave Holland, and Charles Mingus – to cite a few giants of the instrument.

In addition to her bass mastery, Esperanza is a brilliant composer adept at incorporating jazz, post-bop, rhythm & blues, soul, hip-hop, classical, hard rock, progressive rock, and pop. She's also a producer; an educator; an accomplished in-demand accompanist and bandleader; and a remarkable vocalist.

All of Spaldings' sides to date – Junjo, Esperanza, Chamber Music Society, Radio Music Society, and Emily's D+ Evolution are equally accessible to the jazz and pop audiences.
