Paul Jackson

He is proof positive that a few notes make the funk funkier! As a member of Herbie Hancock’s Headhunters, Paul Jackson dug deep into the groove with drummers Harvey Mason and Mike Clark using precisely his unadorned Fender Precision, flat-wounds, and an Acoustic amp.

Rendering deceptively simple, register leaping motifs enhanced with infinite variations of rhythm and space – Jackson steered Herbie’s funky, innovative ship on such seminal sides as Headhunters (1973), Thrust (1974), Flood (1975) and Man Child (1976).

A composer, solo recording artist, in-demand session player with artists including Santana, Stanley Turrentine, Harvey Mason, George Benson, Al Di Meola, the Pointer Sisters to cite a select few: acclaimed educator, and (founder of Jazz for Kids), Paul Jackson is among the giants of the electric bass.
