Scott LaFaro

To my ears, the trio of Bill Evans, Scott LaFaro, and Paul Motian as heard on Sunday at the Village Vanguard (1961) and the triumvirate of Sir Elton, Dee Murray and Nigel Olsson as captured live on 11-17-70 are timeless treasures which truly complement each other.

Both collectives exude astonishing chemistry, harmonic adventure, and matchless interplay. Scott and Dee’s seemingly boundless bass passages dance among the rhythms and melodies of their bandmates. These concert slabs are among the most exciting in rock and jazz, and hearing them back-to-back is even more exhilarating!
