Seminal Sides: Lou Reed Rock and Roll Animal / Live

Waxed at the Academy of Music NYC, December 1973, Rock ‘n’ Roll Animal (1974) and Live (1975) temporarily transformed Lou from underground artist to a bona-fide arena rocker. Guitar shredders Dick Wagner and Steve Hunter, drummer Whitey Glan, keyboardist Ray Colcord, and bassist Prakash John brought Lou’s aggressive hard rock vision to fruition on these historic platters. With a strong foundation in his native Indian music, along with studies in classical, and a passion for rhythm & blues; John’s tone, harmonic extensions and endless rhythmic variations were watershed, predating the emergence of Jaco a few years later.
