Suzanne Vega / Solitude Standing
Folk music with grooves! Hooks! Suzanne Vega’s Solitude Standing (1987) was among the definitive platters of the era, and still holds up rather nicely 30 years after the fact. Bassist Michael J. Viseglia applies his fretted and fretless prowess to Suzanne’s compositions with beautiful countermelodies (“Luka”) and rhythms aplenty which not only expanded the language of the genre, but appealed to the masses as well.
