Janice Marie-Johnson

She will forever be renowned as the sultry slap and pop diva on the dance classic “Boogie Oogie Oogie.”

A versatile singer, composer, and bassist, Janice-Marie Johnson anchored A Taste of Honey (1979 Best New Artist Grammy) for a few platters and singles, most notably the aforementioned disco anthem and the hit “Sukiyaki.”

Previous to Honey, Johnson was a jazz singer who shared the bill with Miles Davis, among others.
