David Sanborn / Voyer

This collection further established David Sanborn as a solo artist, and drew great attention to a rising young bassist named Marcus Miller, who wrote half the album. With an ensemble comprised of New York City’s top studio cats including Hiram Bullock, Steve Gadd, Lenny Castro, and Buzzy Feiten, among others, Marcus’ work on bass, moog bass, and Fender Rhodes maintained a jazz fusion edge while simultaneously appealing to the masses – as evidenced in the Grammy Award for Best R&B Instrumental Performance for the cut “All I Need Is You,” composed by Miller.
