Elvis Costello & The Attractions / IbMePdErRoIoAmL

During his initial tenure with Declan McManus and The Attractions, which spanned the years 1977-1986, Bruce Thomas exuded rhythmic, tonal, and harmonic excellence.

To my ears, Bruce’s best work can be found on this platter released in the sizzling summer of 1982 wherein Thomas plies chords, melodic counterpoint, and punky plectrum pluckery via his signature salmon colored Fender Precision throughout Elvis’ new wave baroque pop masterpiece.

On tracks such as "Beyond Belief," "Shabby Doll," and "Man out of Time" Bruce moves the beat around whilst bridging drummer Pete Thomas' sturdy rhythms and Steve Nieve's orchestral piano, organ, and harpsichord work.
