Nick St. Nicholas

Born Klaus Karl Kassbaum, the bassist known as Nick St. Nicholas plied his craft with such legendary ensembles as The Mynah Birds (Rick James, Neil Young), and Jack London and The Sparrows, among others.

However it is his tenure anchoring Steppenwolf for which he is most noted, replacing Rushton Moreve in late ’68. Nick grooves on the seminal single “Rock Me,” and throughout the band’s blistering twofer concert slab which blared from teenage basements from coast-to-coast throughout the 1970s.
