In my world, every note waxed by Humble Pie and the late, great Greg Ridley is seminal. I hereby cite Rock On (1971) wherein the lads opt for a decidedly heavier blues disposition – much to the dismay of Peter Frampton. Ridley, who takes the lead bluster on “Big George,” tears through every cut with his signature Fender P on overdrive, jumping registers and riffing with reckless abandon. Note the presence of the sizzling Soul Sisters: Claudia Lennear, P.P. Arnold, and Doris Troy; along with sax colossus Bobby Keys.
