Derek Forbes

Adept on fretted and fretless Simple Minds founding bassist Derek Forbes forged instantly recognizable melodic and rhythmic motifs that defined the band’s early canon.

Garnering praise from his peers and awards (Scotland’s Greatest Bassist) for his instrumental prowess, Forbes, known for performing in a kilt, plies his craft with a sharp tone which balanced the sonic barrage of keyboard and guitar resonance of his former ensemble.

After getting the sack from Simple Minds, which Kerr reportedly had misgivings of, Derek toiled in a few ensembles including a latter day version of Big Country, and Fourgoodmen which featured two of his ex-Minds mates.
