Rod Stewart / Foot Loose and Fancy Free - Blondes Have More Fun

Rod jumped the shark (and a few supermodels) when he embarked on his everlasting Atlantic crossing. Yet Stewart’s slick studio slabs had their moments thanks to cadre of ace session cats including bassist Phil Chen.

Waxed at the height of 70’s hedonism, Foot Loose and Fancy Free (1977) and Blondes Have More Fun (1978) are guilty pleasures. 

Phil’s flanged motif which underpins “You’re Insane,” his funky break in “Hot Legs,” infectious octaving for “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy,” along with his usual mastery of rhythm and harmony make for enjoyable (albeit campy) rock ‘n’ roll. My dream gig…
