Joe Cocker / Stingray

Waxed in Jamaica with ace New York City session cats Stuff (guitarists Cornell Dupree and Eric Gale, drummer Steve Gadd, pianist Richard Tee, and bassist Gordon Edwards) Joe Cocker’s Stingray (1976) was a mesmerizing meld of reggae, pre-gentrified Manhattan funk, and urban blues which prominently highlighted Edwards’ patented staccato grooves.

Joe’s reading of Bob Dylan and Jacques Levy’s “Catfish” stands among his defining performances on record.

Hysterical Historical Note: this Cocker ensemble backed Joe and John Belushi on the legendary '76 Saturday Night Live episode.
