Tom Scott / Live at the Bottom Line

Though his studio platters, to my ears, were a tad tempered for commercial airplay, Tom Scott and his various ensembles absolutely tore it up on the bandstand. As I was witness on this evening in ‘76 by way of a then dangerous commute via the Long Island Railroad and NYC Subway system, Scott’s “New York Connection” collective – featuring Richard Tee, Eric Gale, Ralph McDonald, Hugh McCracken and ace session bassist Chuck Rainey mastered the groove and tastefully improvised until the wee hours at the legendary Bottom Line, which, sadly, is no more.
