Haystacks Balboa

Produced by the legendary George Francis “Shadow” Morton, Haystacks Balboa whipped up a bravura brew of prog, hard-rock, and folk, enhanced with a dollop of psychedelia on their classic eponymous slab waxed in 1970.  Sure, they were loud - but they grooved mightily – as evidenced on “Bruce’s Twist” among other cuts. Bassist Mark Polott percolates in the pocket – moving seamlessly from heavy unison lines to soulful passages and melodic counterpoint within HB’s epic compositions. Exceptional players, especially given their young age; this band had the chops and pedigree to go the distance – however such is the “business” of rock and roll which oft consumes its young!
