U2 / New Year's Day

Prompted by the Polish Solidarity movement and Adam Clayton’s failed attempt to render Visage’s synth-pop hit “Fade to Grey,” wherein the bassist accidentally forged a signature rock motif which emerged as a radio http://bit.ly/1gk1DAa  and MTV video http://bit.ly/1TthO0J hit - "New Year's Day" put these Dublin lads on the global map for good. With producer Steve Lillywhite behind the console, Adam’s minor / major 3rd riffing is abetted by a raw Fender P resonance. And it was released on January 1, 1983.
