Joe Farrell Quartet

Released three times with three different album designs and titles, Joe Farrell’s 1970 solo bow is a masterpiece meld of post-bop and jazz fusion.

Farrell, on tenor and soprano, enlists simpatico sidemen John McLaughlin, Chick Corea, Jack DeJohnette, and bassist Dave Holland on this entrancing, ethereal song-cycle.

Holland enhances the soloists with his usual harmonic and rhythmic genius.

To my ears, this ensemble cut the finest rendition of John McLaughlin’smajestic “Follow Your Heart.”
