Elton John / Lucy in the Sky

Ye gods, in ’74 the Beatles police blew their minds out in a car when Sir Reggie dropped this Lennon composed single.

Their fear was, as I recall, that Dr. Winston O’Boogie would not receive his due reverence as it was assumed that the spotty masses who tuned into AM radio didn’t read record credits!

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame worthy bassist Dee Murray was masterful as usual, gliding along with tuneful upper register counterpoint and in-the-pocket perfection whilst purveying sweet vocal harmonies.  We wore out side A, however Elton’s rendition of John’s “One Day at a Time” was better left in the vault.
